the adoption process

Step 1

Please fill out our online application if you are interested in learning more about one of our rescue animals. Applicants must be at least 21 years old to adopt one of Furever Haven Animal Rescue’s animals.

Step 2

Once you’ve submitted your application, you will be contacted by an adoption coordinator. Please keep in mind that Furever Haven is entirely run by volunteers, so you will hear from a Furever Haven team member as soon as possible.  If applicable, we’ll contact your veterinarian to confirm that your current and previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and cared for properly. If you’re a renter, we’ll check with your landlord to see if there are any pet policies in place and any size or breed restrictions if you’re adopting a dog.

Step 3

If you would like to continue with the adoption process after speaking with an adoption coordinator about the animal you are interested in, arrangements will be made for you to meet them at their foster home. A home visit will be scheduled after meeting the animal of your choice. The goal of the home visit is to ensure that the rescue animal is in a safe environment and to assist with the adoption process.

Applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received at Furever Haven Animal Rescue. To ensure successful adoptions, we focus on matching the right animal with the right family. Our mission is to find these incredible animals loving homes where they can live out their lives in peace, safety, and comfort. We require adopters to meet our adoptable animals in person, prioritizing applicants in Virginia. However, we will consider adopters from other regions on a case-by-case basis.

Our Adoption Fees

Furever Haven charges an adoption fee for all our rescued animals. The adoption fees help cover the costs we incur when rescuing our animals, such as medical care, transportation, supplies, and other expenses. More often than not, the costs associated with each rescued animal exceed our adoption fees.

  • Dogs (Ages 18 months and up): $500
  • Puppies (under 18 months): $550
  • Senior Dogs (8 years and up): $350
  • Cats (Ages 8 and up): $200
  • Kittens (Under 8 months): $300
  • A $100 deposit is required for unaltered puppies/dogs and kittens/cats. (See below)

Furever Haven requires a $100 deposit that will be refunded once proof of spay or neuter is provided. To help alleviate the massive overpopulation problem, all Furever Haven animals must be spayed or neutered. Essential vaccinations are given to all Furever Haven animals based on their age.

We accept cash, credit card, and check payments for adoption fees.
